Joseph Defazio is a native of Cleveland, Ohio, USA. He holds academic degrees in music, applied computer technology, and instructional (design) technology. Joseph is an educator and faculty member at Indiana University Purdue University in Indianapolis, Indiana. He demonstrated an intense interest in music at the age of 4. He learned to play piano, guitar, violin, clarinet, and trombone by the time he was 16. He started his music education at Baldwin-Wallace College, Berea, Ohio and received his doctorate from Indiana University, Bloomington, Indiana. In the 1970’s he formed the Classical-Progressive Rock Band, Atlantis Philharmonic. These original compositions are featured on (2) albums, currently available on the Atlantis Philharmonic Website. His passion and dream led him to composing for both piano and orchestra. He has composed in many eclectic styles of music. He states, “My passion is composing. The creation of music is communication and inspiration from my Father.”

Since its inception, Atlantis Philharmonic captivated audiences throughout the Midwest with its unique style of classical rock. Their music has been called 'picturesque' and had earned them the respect of an ever-growing audience.
